The oldest voice on the roster. Mother Lilly Valley works in a register nobody else here touches — “Four Angels”, “Lot’s Wife” — narrative gospel that treats scripture as something that happened to people rather than something to quote at them. Two songs, and the label has never pushed her for a third. She was on the corner before the corner was a label. When the Community Singers talk about who taught them to hold a note until the room settles, they mean her.
